Cultural Immersion & Conservation of the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga
We had the honor of taking part in the 2025 World Heritage Volunteers campaign in Madagascar, a powerful initiative focused on the preservation of the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga — a UNESCO World Heritage Site, organized by Education For Madagascar (EDU4MADA). EDU4MADA is a grassroots organization committed to education, sustainable development, and empowerment in Madagascar’s rural communities. It supports children and their families in breaking the cycle of poverty through access to education, while promoting strong cultural and social values.
This year's edition centered around the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga, located 24 kilometers northeast of Antananarivo. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, this sacred hill is a symbol of Malagasy identity, history, and memory. But beyond conservation, this initiative is a collective commitment, to inspire younger generations to protect their heritage, history, culture, and environment.
As part of the official launch, our team at Nature & Culture Madagascar organized a guided tour of Antananarivo, offering participants an immersive introduction to the city’s rich cultural heritage and its connection to the Royal Hill. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the young volunteers and partners for their dedication to building a more conscious and responsible future.
