Let's start with the capital Antananarivo, commonly known as TANA: the city of a thousand warriors. Very feminine, it sits perched at an altitude of 1400 meters, with cool winters and hot summers. The ruffled tiers of its dress represent the rice fields in its plain, lush green from late October to March and golden in March-April. Its arms are the few tall buildings that dot the skyline.
Getting to know Tana in just two days is not enough, but it is still interesting due to its rich culture. Our first recommendation is a visit to the Royal Palace, the botanical and zoological park, and the old town, culminating with a sunset at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
For souvenir shopping, the craft market at La Digue offers a wide range of locally made items using local materials. It's the perfect place to find unique mementos crafted by local artisans.
